Description of Works and Scope

The construction of the detention basin, pollutant trap and hydrocarbon and fine sediment separator was part of a much larger project for the upgrade and complete overhaul of a Bus Depot in the Sydney suburb of Tempe. The detention basin was 500m3 in capacity and apart from the base slab was completely constructed from precast concrete cells known as ‘Humes Stormtrap’.

Prior to the stormwater entering the detention base it was filtered by two traps. The first trap was a gross pollutant trap that captured larger particles and general rubbish (plastic bottles, food scraps, etc). It was also a Hume product known as the ‘HumeGuard H627R’. The second trap captured suspended solids and petroleum hydrocarbons. It was also a Hume product known as the ‘HumeCeptor STC18’. As it is predominantly a diesel bus fleet housed at the Tempe Depot, the second unit was deemed necessary during the Environmental Assessment and subsequent Development Application of the project.
